About
Welcome to my portfolio! Here, you can explore a collection of my creative writing, short- and long-form writing, and nonfiction pieces. This is a dynamic page that I will keep adding onto as I continue to work.
I took more of a backdoor approach to get into writing. it certainly wasn't my passion growing up. Putting words on a page felt like mandatory work, whereas sports, competition, and other outside activities were my first love. My essays in school were fine. Better than fine, actually. I could fill up a page with ease, stretching ideas to fit word counts and covering topics with surprising skill. They always had the same notes on them: "Well written, but wasn't your best effort." I found this bare-minimum style of writing to be a talent of mine, quickly writing eloquent pieces that didn't really have anything to do with the prompt, but was too well-written for the teacher to fail. As I grew older and moved onto late high school and college, I began taking this skill more seriously. I graduated college and tried my hand at some low-level professional baseball, though that didn't last long. As I packed up my bag after being released for the final time, I saw the twilight of my career, but nothing after. It was then when I realized how much of life I had dedicated to the game I loved. But what was left? What next?
I was presented with two options: I could spend my life clinging onto the past, trying to relive the glory days and continue finding my identity in baseball, or I could step into the unknown own places of my life and realize there was more I had to offer the world.
So I chose the latter.
Writing has grounded me in this process. It's been a way to springboard ideas, talk to myself - even when I don't want to listen, and explore the life that was waiting for me to find it.
